USDA Organic – EPA Approved balEnce™ Biological Fly Bait The Safe, Natural and Effective Solution to Your Fly Problems A
naturally occurring, environmentally friendly fungus (Beauveria bassiana)
that specifically targets flies, has no harsh chemicals and is safe for humans, animals and
beneficial insects and is approved for sale by the US Environmental
Protection Agency (EPA) This means that
it kills flies but is harmless to horses, people, pets and the
environment. balEnce™ is Chemical FREE Approved
by US Environmental Protection
Agency (EPA) Approved
by the US Dept of Agriculture (USDA) (National
Organic Program) After 3 to
4 weeks, the fly reproductive cycle will be broken and there will be a
significant decrease in the fly population! Flies includes the common housefly as well as
horn flies, fruit
flies, face flies, stable flies, black garbage flies and blowflies, among
others. This particular strain of Beauveria bassiana will infect
and kill all the flies in this specific family of flies but will not harm other insects such as
beneficial insects (parasitic wasps, carcinops and earwigs), animals
(poultry, horses, swine, cattle), humans or the environment. HOW TO USE : Solid bait balEnce™:
bait is placed on trays,
paper plates, or in a balEnce™ recyclable bait station. Anywhere, tack
room, feed room and everywhere you have flies! The flies are attracted
to the bait by the smell and the color. Fungus spores are picked up by
the fly, the spores germinate and enter the fly’s body – the fly will
become infected with fungus, become sick and die. While it is sick, the
fly will not reproduce. After 3 to
4 weeks the reproductive cycle will be broken and there will be a significant
decrease in the fly population. Replace the balEnceTM Bait twice each week. Take the solid bait
that remains and throw it in the manure pile, or on a dirt floor – there is
still some fungus left. Results indicate that fly levels begin decreasing
after two weeks with further reductions in pest levels within four weeks. Place
one bait out for every 200-250 square feet of fly breeding area –
approximately one tray or bait station for every two stalls. WHAT IS IT? balEnce™ Biological Fly Bait consists of the fungus
(Beauveria bassiana), barley grits, powdered sugar attractant and food color.
The solid barley grit prevents the bait from melting in humid conditions like
many other fly baits. balEnce™

Field Trial Tested (industrial use) Evaluation of Beauveria bassiana Application Against Musca domestica in Commercial Caged-Layer Poultry Facilities in New York State. Biological Control.33: 360-367 February 22 to April 7, 2008. The efficacy of the respective fly control procedures was evaluated using sticky ribbons” which were unrolled and walked around the interior perimeter of the house prior to the initiation of the trial and on 11 sampling days extending from February 22 through April 7. Fly counts for the two houses are shown in the attached diagram. It is projected that the cost of a comprehensive balEnce program would amount to $10,000 to $12,000 annually in comparison to $50,000 for a 10-house complex using conventional insecticides.
